In order to strengthen the information system of industrial property protection, since July the 1998 Lithuanian Technical Library was given to the management of the State Patent Bureau. Patent Information Centre (PIC) was founded in the library on the 1st February 1999 and it took over the functions of the former Patent Department. PIC is a depository library of industrial property documents, official publications, literature and periodicals on industrial property of Lithuania, foreign countries and international organizations, the centre of publishing of patent documentation and patent information services in Lithuania. The main objective of the Patent Information Centre is to disseminate patent information in the society. Currently PIC accumulates patents and patent applications from 28 countries and international organizations. On the 1st January 2009 the patent collection comprised of near 38 million patent documents. PIC exchanges official publications in paper form, CD-ROM and DVD-ROM disks with 42 industrial property offices of foreign countries as well as international and regional organizations. The centre provides free and fee-paying services: patent documents are lent out and provided for usage in the reading room, visitors are consulted on the issues of patent search; patent clinic; bibliographical patent and applicants' searches, patent family and legal status searches, searches for trademarks and designs, monitoring of trademarks and legal status of patents, consultations on issues of commercialization of patents can be ordered to be carried out; copies of the documents in various storages and delivery of copies are made; visitors by themselves can look for information in the Internet and CD/DVD-ROM databases, there also is a possibility to subscribe to the Official Gazette of the State Patent Bureau and information publication "Pramoninės nuosavybės apsauga" (Protection of industrial property).
